  • Crowns:
    No filling can be made when caries has already caused too much of the tooth to decay. However, if the tooth’s root is still well, the rest of it could be saved and brought back to its original shape and size by placing an artificial crown on the post built into the root canal. Crowns may also be used as an anchor for bridges and other fixed partial denture. They consist of one of the following materials:
    • Metal ceramic (porcelain) crowns
